When it comes to delivering a five-star customer experience at your hotel, the job doesn’t begin when a guest walks through your door — it starts the moment they begin searching the web for accommodations.

To convert Google searchers into repeat guests who leave great reviews, you’ll want to ensure that your website has an attractive and responsive design that follows the latest trends.

Here are five hotel website design trends for 2023 to win over Google and guests alike:

1. A Clean Web Interface

A clean web interface is one that’s simple and organized, only showing the viewer what they need to see — when they need to see it. Long-scrolling is the practice of having one long page of content that loads as the user scrolls down the page. Although once frowned upon, long-scrolling (also known as infinite scrolling) has gained popularity, especially for mobile screen users.

One important note about long-scrolling is that the content must be engaging by telling a story that your reader is willing to scroll to keep reading. For a positive guest experience, it’s wise to avoid any oversized images or buttons that can increase load time and take away from the crisp and clean appearance of the webpage.

White Space and Navigation Menus

Clever use of white space (negative space) lends to a hotel website design that is easy to read and navigate. It can also make your call to action (CTA) — such as your online booking CTA — stand out. Additionally, less content per screen view can reduce load times and enhance your search engine optimization (SEO) by not cluttering your pages with unnecessary information.

Lastly, a clear navigation menu should fit in with the clean interface of your website’s design while still providing the needed information. It should take a maximum of three clicks on your webpage for the viewer to find what they are looking for.

2. Mobile-Friendliness

In short, “mobile-friendly” means that the viewer does not have to manipulate their mobile device (such as zooming in or out) in order to clearly view or access website content. A mobile-friendly website should also load quickly and have a large enough font size that the content can be read easily.

Google places high importance on a website’s mobile-friendly features when it comes to the likelihood of your domain appearing on its search engine results pages (SERPs). This is especially important now that 48% of U.S. travelers are willing to book their trip to a new destination solely from their smartphone.

3. Accessibility-Focused

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) government website offers guidance on how to make sure your website is accessible to people with disabilities.

The ADA website states that the following design features could create a barrier for some website viewers:

  • Poor color contrast
  • Use of color alone to give information
  • No “alt text” on images
  • No captions on videos
  • Inaccessible online forms
  • Mouse-only navigation

To provide the best guest experience of all, it’s crucial to consider these elements when planning your hotel website design strategy. Being ADA-compliant can improve your hotel’s reputation as a fair and welcoming business. You may also want to provide multilingual website options if you cater to a diverse audience.

4. Streamlined Communication

Streamlined communication options can make your hotel more available to guests. You may want to include chatbots when evaluating your hotel website design ideas. Chatbots can answer simple questions or direct website visitors to desired content around the clock.

To drive engagement, consider setting up automated replies on platforms like Facebook Messenger, Instagram Direct Messages, or WhatsApp for potential guests who prefer to communicate using social platforms. Be sure that you have links to your social media pages clearly visible on your website to help users find you on their preferred channel.

Additionally, your hotel booking software may enable you to manage your marketing email and SMS communications all from the same platform.

5. Smart Video Content

Engaging videos that are shorter than two minutes can increase the time visitors spend on your webpage by 88 %. This alone could help turn reluctant page viewers into excited hotel guests. In fact, over half of website visitors want to learn about your business through video. It’s likely that smart video content will continue to be a key trend for best hotel website design trend strategies.
